The computer and the Internet is fast changing the rules of education and the work place. Forbes Computer is a pioneering company in organizing two "work and training" cooperatives. The main premise of these entities is that computer and the Internet is a better teacher then the traditional class room for gifted students. Let's look at some interesting points from both sides.
The computer equipped with modem is relatively cheap, even in the developing countries.
One computer will serve the whole family not just one student for one tuition fee.
A structure of a central site and dispersed talent.
World wide participation. Once a member always a member, even if member leaves the country.
One instructor handles many more students via a discussion group.
Arguments for a Virtual School
What this means is computers are placed in the home and communication is done via the telephone. The whole family is part of the education process. Please visit the description CAST and CCCC using the navigation bar above.
As students turn into adults the formal training in the traditional schools comes to an end. The experienced worker have only self training to keep up with technology. Things just move to fast for the tradition school to respond. This structure encourages the RTM (Read the Manual) method of learning. Students do not learn technical reading in school. In other words "How to Read a Book". The computer is a great tool to teach this method, since it is a tool for perimentation or "try this, try that" method of learning.
The computer and the Internet ends the "Brain Drain" problems that plague the companies using high technology here in the Philippines. An employee can live anywhere in the world and still contribute as a member of the organization.
